According to an indictment filed in a U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Lil Durk, also known as Durk Banks, is charged with murder-for-hire after he was allegedly implicated by a member of his hip-hop group Only the Family (OTF).

The 32-year-old Grammy-nominated artist was arrested in Florida on Thursday and is currently in a Broward County jail awaiting transfer to the U.S. Marshals. The indictment is part of a larger federal case involving a conspiracy against Georgia-based rapper Quando Rondo, allegedly in retaliation for the 2020 killing of Chicago rapper King Von, a close friend and associate of Banks.

This latest indictment received widespread attention due to the alleged betrayal within the OTF involving an informant who had reportedly worked with authorities for years.

The informant, identified as OTF member Jam, is said to have worn a hidden wire for several years to collect evidence for authorities. Jam, who was released from prison in 2022 after serving a 12-year sentence for attempted murder, reportedly provided information directly linking Banks to the murder-for-hire scheme against Rondo, née Tyquian Terrel Bowman.

Chicago rapper King Yella also claimed that he heard OTF member Jam implicate Banks in the murder of Bowman's cousin Lul Pab in retaliation for King Von's death.

According to the indictment, several individuals associated with the OTF coordinated the conspiracy and discussed payments following the alleged assassination attempt on Bowman. On the same day, OTF-associated credit cards were reportedly used to book flights back to Chicago for several people involved. Prosecutors say those transactions and the informant's notes played a key role in linking Banks to the murder-for-hire plot.

The plan allegedly involved offering the music industry opportunities and cash rewards in exchange for the murder of Bowman, who some believe was involved in the murder of King Von, née Dayvon Bennett, outside an Atlanta nightclub in 2020.

In addition to being a member of OTF, King Von was also a long-time friend and collaborator of Banks, with the two having worked together on the hit “Crazy Story” and the album “Welcome to O'Block.” Banks later paid tribute to Von in his song “The Voice,” released in December 2020, shortly after Von's death.

Lil Durk, a Grammy-winning rapper and philanthropist known for tracks such as “All My Life” with J. Cole and “Broadway Girls” with Morgan Wallen, was honored with the keys to Broadview and Bellwood on Oct. 18. This recognition came during a private meeting at Broadview Village Hall, where the mayors announced a partnership with Durk's charitable foundation.
