Chef and former NFL player Tobias Dorzon was injured in a shooting during an attempted robbery in Maryland on Tuesday.

Hyattsville police responded to reports of a shooting in the 2500 block of Kirkwood Place at 10:14 p.m. Officers found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds.

Both victims were taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

The victims told police they were on their way home from dinner when five people approached them and tried to rob them.

Officials have released descriptions for four of five suspects. A man was wearing a black hooded jacket and light jeans and was carrying a semi-automatic pistol. Another man was wearing a black jacket with a hood, light jeans and black and yellow sneakers and was carrying a semi-automatic pistol. A man was wearing a black jacket and dark pants with white stripes and was carrying a short-barreled rifle. Another man was wearing a black hooded jacket, dark pants and carrying a semi-automatic pistol.

A vehicle involved in the incident is described as a white SUV with a sunroof and an unknown tag.

Who is Tobias Dorzon?

Dorzon was drafted into the NFL in 2010. He played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans. He also played in the Canadian Football League for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Dorzon attended the International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Washington during the 2012 off-season. In 2018, he opened the Union District Oyster Bar and Lounge in Washington, DC. He later opened Thirteen Restaurant in Houston, Texas and Huncho House in Hyattsville.

He was named 2024 Chef of the Year by the Restaurant Association of Maryland. He was the first chef from Prince George's County to receive this award. The district honored him with a special proclamation, recognizing him and congratulating him on his achievement.

He has appeared on several culinary competition shows, including Chopped and Guy's Grocery Games on Food Network. He also hosts “Time Out with Tobias” on ESPN+ and Hulu.

The female victim has not yet been identified.
