CCSD support staff will no longer be required to paint over graffiti off campus

The unions representing CCSD support staff say they just won a major victory.

Just days after our Crisis in the Classroom team reported safety concerns surrounding staff members who were allegedly sent off a West Valley high school campus to paint over graffiti, the district has agreed that no support staff will be allowed in the future will do this.

That's what Teamsters Local 14, the union representing the employee, and the Education Support Employees Association (ESEA) say.

They say they received confirmation by phone and email from the district attorney.

News 3 spoke with a Western High School building manager earlier this week who claims he was approached by the gang behind the graffiti when he was sent across the street from campus to paint over the graffiti last year.

Teamsters Local 14 and ESEA recently raised concerns with CCSD after they said Western's principal told employees he was allowed to send employees off site to do this work.

Jason Gateley, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 14, said in a statement: “We are pleased we were able to work together to find a resolution to this matter. Knowing that support professionals are not in harm’s way while working on CCSD property is reassuring to our members.”

Teamsters Local 14 and ESEA originally planned a campaign to take place Friday afternoon in front of Western High.

Due to this agreement, the event is canceled.

News 3 has reached out to CCSD to confirm the agreement.
