Berlin (dpa) – After the bankruptcy of Madrid, Borussia Dortmund suffered the next setback in the Bundesliga. The Black and Yellows suffered a 1:2 (1:1) defeat at FC Augsburg on matchday 8 and remained without a win in their fourth away game of the season. RB Leipzig, another premier class loser during the week, defeated SC Freiburg 3-1 (0-1) and lost the top spot at least until Sunday.

Four days after the surprising 1-0 win at Italian record champions Juventus Turin, VfB Stuttgart rounded off a perfect week with a 2-1 (1-0) win against Bundesliga newcomer Holstein Kiel. The North Germans remain second to last with just two points. In the relegation zone is co-promoter FC St. Pauli, who played 0-0 against VfL Wolfsburg.

BVB, which lost 5-2 to Real Madrid in the new edition of the Champions League final on Tuesday despite a 2-0 lead, actually had an optimal start with Donyell Malen's early opening goal (5th). But the lightness was missing. Augsburg turned the game around thanks to two goals from Alexis Claude-Maurice (25th and 50th). To make matters worse, Dortmund's youngster Almugera Kabar also saw a yellow-red card (90th+8).

BVB is already seven points behind the top of the table

With just 13 points, coach Nuri Sahin's team is already seven points behind league leaders Leipzig, who visit Dortmund next Saturday.

Leipzig didn't really get going against Freiburg at first; the 1-0 loss against Liverpool might have left its mark. But with a show of will, the Saxons, who had to do without their long-term injured offensive star Xavi Simons, turned the game around after Ritsu Doan conceded an early goal (15th). Willi Orban (47th), Lutsharel Geertruida (58th) and Loïs Openda (79th) scored the fourth league win in the series. However, RB is threatened with another loss, keeper Peter Gulacsi had to go down injured after half-time.

National striker Undav scores again

In Stuttgart, national striker Deniz Undav once again demonstrated his goalscoring qualities when he took the lead after 19 minutes. After his three goals in a DFB uniform, it was the attacker's fifth goal of the season in the league.

El Bilal Touré increased Stuttgart's lead to 2-0 before VfB weakened themselves with the unnecessary yellow-red card for Julian Chabot for complaining. Kiel at least took advantage of this to score the next goal through Armin Gigovic (84th). In the final phase, Kiel's Fiete Arp also saw a yellow-red card for repeated foul play (88th).

On Friday, FSV Mainz 05 and Borussia Mönchengladbach drew 1-1 at the start of the match day. Both clubs are in the middle of the table.
