Bruins 3-0 Flyers (November 2, 2024) Game Recap

2 minutes, 6 seconds Read

PHILADELPHIA – Joonas Korpisalo made 20 saves for his first shutout of the season and the fifth of his career, leading the Boston Bruins to a 3-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.

Matthew Poitras, Justin Brazeau and Brad Marchand scored for Boston, which won for just the second time in its last six games.

Korpisalo was particularly active in the second period, making several athletic saves to keep the Flyers off the scoreboard and end Philadelphia's two-game winning streak.

Midway through the first period, Poitras scored the first goal for the Bruins when he hit his first goal of the season from a tight angle on the side of the net past Aleksei Kolosov.

Kolosov made 20 saves as a substitute for Sam Ersson, who left in the first period with an undisclosed injury.

Brazeau extended the lead to 2-0 at 11:23 of the second when he fired a shot from the right circle past Kolosov.

Marchand, who assisted Brazeau's goal, scored another unanswered goal to cap the score.

Takeaways

Bruins: After losing at home to Philadelphia and a blowout loss at Carolina earlier in the week, Boston had one goal. The Bruins controlled the game for most of the first period, outscoring the Flyers 14-5. They played most of Philadelphia's final game and were finally rewarded with Poitras' goal.

Flyers: Morgan Frost was thought to be a guy the Flyers would like to pair with rookie sensation Matvei Michkov to provide offense this season. It didn't work and Frost doesn't even play in the same vein. Frost hasn't scored a goal this season and had two chances on Saturday that went awry. One hit the post and another was stopped with a long save by Korpisalo.

Key moment

Ersson left after 7:36 minutes of the first period and was replaced by Kolosov. Ersson appeared to have a skating problem at the previous stoppage, which was repaired on the ice, but was removed from the game at the next whistle. The Flyers announced he would not be returning. Before his injury, Ersson made eight saves on eight shots and looked good while withstanding the Bruins' heavy attacking pressure.

Key statistics

121 – The number of blocked shots by Flyers forward Ryan Poehling since the start of last season, the most of any forward in the NHL.
