Big 12 update: All but Oklahoma State show life in conference play

2 minutes, 39 seconds Read

Saturday proved that any Big 12 team can beat another on any given day. Except Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys are 0-6 in league play after a 42-21 loss to Arizona State, still the only Big 12 team without a conference win. Meanwhile, as expected, chaos ensued in Stillwater across the rest of the Big 12.

Here's what happened in the rest of the Big 12 this weekend.

Texas Tech 23, No. 11 Iowa State 22

The Red Raiders pulled off the biggest upset of the weekend in the Big 12, handing Iowa State its first loss of the season. Tahj Brooks scored a five-yard touchdown with just 20 seconds left to give Tech the lead before the Red Raiders held off ISU and pulled off the upset.

The upset opened things up even more against Arlington, knocking the Cyclones out by one while keeping Tech's hopes alive at 6-3. BYU, which paused this week, is the last undefeated team in the Big 12.

Houston 24, No. 17 Kansas State 19

Tech wasn't the only team that pulled off an upset on Saturday. Houston defeated Kansas State in another close game. The Cougars trailed 19-10 entering the fourth quarter before scoring two unanswered touchdowns. The decisive blow was Zeon Chriss' 41-yard run with 2:31 left, then on the next drive Houston picked off Avery Johnson, stopping the Wildcats again at the Houston 39-yard line.

At 4-5, Houston could now reach a bowl after winning two straight games for the first time this season. K-State, meanwhile, must continue to fight to remain in the hunt for a Big 12 title at 7-2.

UCF 56, Arizona 12

Arizona's first Big 12 season isn't going well, and the Wildcats also had the experience of visiting Orlando during UCF's Space Game. The Knights totaled 602 yards in the win, ending a five-game losing streak for UCF (4-5). Arizona has now lost five straight and still has just one Big 12 win against Utah on Sept. 28, a week after the Utes beat OSU.

Baylor 37, TCU 34

There was no #Big12AfterDark this weekend, so Baylor and TCU finished things off with a close result in Waco. With the game tied, Isaiah Hankins hit a 33-yard field goal as time expired to give the Bears (5-4) their third straight win. TCU, also 5-4, hosts OSU on Saturday after winning two of its last three games.
