Beyonce made a rare political appearance when she hugged Kamala Harris at a presidential campaign rally and told voters, “We have to sing a new song.”

Although she did not perform – unlike in 2016, when she sang at a rally for Hillary Clinton in Cleveland – she spoke as a woman Harris she warned Republican rival because the White House wants women's rights to be further eroded.

“I am not here as a celebrity, I am not here as a politician. I’m here as a mother.” Beyonce told the crowd in Houston, Texas.

“A mother who cares deeply about the world in which my children and all our children live, a world in which we have the freedom to control our bodies, a world in which we are not divided.”

“Imagine our daughters growing up and seeing what is possible, without limits and restrictions,” the US singer continued. “We have to vote, and we need you.”

Beyonce was joined on stage by her Destiny's Child bandmate Kelly Rowland and introduced Democratic candidate Ms. Harris as the “next President of the United States.”

Houston is Beyoncé's hometown, and Ms. Harris's presidential campaign adopted Beyoncé's song “Freedom,” a track from her 2016 album “Lemonade,” as an anthem and first used the music in July.

Beyonce gave Vice President Harris permission to use the song, which includes two recordings by John and Alan Lomax documenting the history of segregation in America.

The rally was held in Texas to draw attention to the growing medical consequences of the state's strict abortion ban. Abortions are illegal in almost all cases, except in cases where the mother's life is at risk.

However, due to the law's unclear wording, harmful pregnancies are not an explicit exception. As a result, the state's infant mortality rate has increased, more babies have died from birth defects, and maternal mortality has increased.

Ms. Harris was joined at the rally by women who almost died from pregnancy complications. In some states, doctors are prosecuted for providing medical care to women in life-threatening situations.

“For anyone watching from another state: If you believe you are protected from Trump’s abortion bans because you live in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, New York, California or any other state where voters or lawmakers protect reproductive freedom “Please know: No one is protected,” warned Ms. Harris.

“Because a nationwide ban by Donald Trump will ban abortion in every single state.”

Mr. Trump has been inconsistent with his message on abortion and reproductive rights — despite repeatedly saying he would veto a national ban.

He was also in Texas on Friday, where he said that if he won, he would break records for the number of people deported from the United States.
