The centre-back was unable to continue after the break due to a knock and was replaced by Joe Gomez as the Reds secured a 2-1 win.

Konate will now require further assessment by the club's medical team to determine whether he faces a spell on the sidelines.

Asked about the injury, Slot said at his post-match press conference: “We don’t know yet. He was in a lot of pain, but he hasn't been to the hospital yet – and maybe it's not necessary to go to the hospital, I don't know.

“It is always difficult to assess an injury in the first hour or 10 minutes afterwards. Let’s hope he can be with us as soon as possible because he has had a big impact on our season so far.”

“But Joe deserves the trust I gave him today because he played outstandingly in the second half.”

With Konate unable to continue, Slot turned to Gomez to partner Virgil van Dijk in defense – and was full of praise for his performance as goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah sealed the turnaround win and lifted Liverpool to the top of the Premier -League table brought .

The coach added: “It wasn't just the first half that was a big disappointment, but also the disappointment that (Konate) had to leave because he's been really good for us all season.”

“The good thing is that I also have two very good options in this position with Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez.”

“I replaced Jarell five minutes before the end in Brighton because he had already been stretching for 20 minutes and I could feel and see that he was tired, which isn't that surprising because he hasn't played that much yet.”

“Then, with 45 minutes to go, I felt like I needed to bring someone fitter than Jarell had been during the week.”
