Anthony Davis plans to play through stuck hip

2 minutes, 12 seconds Read

The Los Angeles Lakers released their injury report for Friday's road game against the Toronto Raptors and Anthony Davis was not included despite jamming his hip against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The only notable thing was that D'Angelo Russell was listed as probable due to back soreness, although that suggests he's also likely able to play.

Davis looked downright dominant for the Lakers in the first five games of the 2024-25 season. He is averaging 30.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 2.0 blocks, all numbers that lead LA this year. If he continues like this, he could be in for the best season of his career.

His first superhuman moment of the year came in the first quarter against the Cavaliers on Wednesday when Davis appeared to tweak his hip. He didn't miss any time, playing 31 minutes that night. He still managed 22 points and 13 rebounds, but given his past, any sign of injury will be concerning for Davis.

But he ruled out any possibility of an absence or significant injury after the game, describing his hip as pinched via Spectrum SportsNet:

“Yeah, I tweaked my hip in the first quarter… A little sore. Somehow it's blocked. But I'm fine, it just bothered me as the game went on. It won’t stop me from playing.”

The 31-year-old has shown in the past that he is capable of playing through minor injuries and considering he was able to play the remainder of Wednesday's game and is no longer listed on the injury report, he will be good to go. But as always, injuries to Davis are something to keep an eye on.

Anthony Davis is the inaugural Western Conference Player of the Week for 2024-25

Anthony Davis was named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Tuesday, Oct. 22 through Sunday, Oct. 27, the league announced. Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum was named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

The weekly award is Davis' sixth as a member of the Lakers and 11th overall in his career. It's a well-deserved win, as Davis led the Lakers to a perfect 3-0 with three 30-plus point performances in the season-opening week.

In the three games, the 31-year-old averaged a league-best 34.0 points on 57.1 FG%, 40.0 3FG% and 80.0 FT%, as well as 11.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1, 7 steals and 2.3 blocks. The Lakers started a season 3-0 for the first time since 2010, beating three strong Western Conference teams at home: the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Phoenix Suns and the Sacramento Kings.
