Aaron Rodgers is breaking the troubling trend for New York Jets quarterbacks

The New York Jets have struggled to find any form of consistency on the field for what feels like forever.

Last year was supposed to be the turning point for the franchise after a blockbuster trade was made earlier in the offseason to sign superstar quarterback and four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers.

While the living legend was already at the end of his career, he was only two seasons away from his fourth MVP, which came just a year after his third MVP.

Entering his 19th year in the NFL, hopes were high for Rodgers and the Jets, a team believed to be “just a quarterback away.”

Just four snaps into his tenure with New York, all hope for the team and its star quarterback was gone as a torn Achilles tendon ended his season early.

The Jets have been used to disappointments from their quarterback room over the years, although more on the performance side than the injury side.

In the 2018 NFL Draft, New York selected Sam Darnold, a standout for the USC Trojans, with the first pick.

The team saw ghosts early in his tenure as a starter and quickly moved on from Darnold to take Zach Wilson, a BYU Cougars standout, with its first pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Wilson's time as a starter would also be short-lived, although he is still on the roster while Darnold now serves as the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, a playoff contender at this point in the year.

What's most concerning about the QB carousel the Jets find themselves in is the lack of scoring they've received from their quarterbacks heading into the 2024 season.

With his 10th touchdown pass of the year last week, Rodgers became the first New York quarterback to reach double figures in the stat line since Darnold threw for 19 in 2019.

Rodgers is now at 12 for the year with nine games remaining, and the team recently landed one of its all-time favorite targets in Davante Adams, so 20 passing touchdowns for the year should be easily possible.

The last quarterback to score 20 or more touchdowns in a single season with the Jets, you ask?

It's none other than Ryan Fitzpatrick, who threw 31 touchdown passes for the team in the Year of Our Lord in 2015.

Rodgers will have to step up if he wants to reach the 30-touchdown mark, but if anyone can do it, it's Rodgers.
