Donald Trump wins the White House; Find more Mississippi results here

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – Donald Trump was elected as the 47th President of the United States on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.

According to the AP, a win in Wisconsin gave Trump the 270 electoral votes needed for the presidency.

“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th and 45th presidents,” Trump told cheering supporters in Florida.

“We have been through so much together, and today you showed up in record numbers to achieve a victory,” Trump said. “This was special and we will repay you.”

AP reported Wednesday afternoon that Vice President Kamala Harris called President-elect Trump to congratulate him on his election victory.

Harris is scheduled to give her concession speech on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Eastern Time.

Trump's campaign released the following statement Wednesday afternoon: “President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris spoke by phone today to congratulate him on his historic victory. President Trump recognized Vice President Harris for her strength, professionalism and tenacity throughout the campaign, and both leaders agreed on the importance of uniting the country.”

Important races were also called in Mississippi.

Republican incumbent Roger Wicker defeated Democrat Ty Pinkins in the fight for the US Senate seat in Mississippi with 63% of the vote.

Republican incumbent Mike Ezell defeated Democrat Craig Raybon for the seat in the 4th US House of Representatives with 74.6% of the vote.

For the seat in the second U.S. House of Representatives, Democratic incumbent Bennie Thompson beat Republican Ron Eller with 61.7% of the vote.

And for the U.S. House District 1 seat, Republican incumbent Trent Kelly beat Democrat Dianne Black with 69.9% of the vote.

George County voters rejected a tax levy proposal that would have allowed a 3% hotel and motel tax on every room rented in the county and outside of Lucedale and a 1% tax on the gross proceeds from the sale of prepared food and beverages . Find out more about it HERE.
