Many questions remain about the election results in the Pine Tree State, including which races are too close to the polls US Senate And House of Representativesand all but one of the statewide ballot questions.

Maine voters weighed in on five statewide referendum questions during Tuesday's election. Results for one were received in the early hours of Wednesday, but the other four have yet to be announced by the Associated Press, with the majority of votes counted.

Question 1, which sought to limit donations to political action committees that independently spend money to try to support or defeat candidates, won in a landslide, with the AP passing it with the support of nearly three-quarters of voters proclaimed in Maine.

Questions two through four were bond initiatives that sought to fund innovative research and development, restore historic buildings and develop a new statewide trail system. Between 70 and 71% of votes had been counted for each of these questions by Wednesday morning, but none had been called.

Shortly after 7 a.m., the AP reported that the research and development bond had 55% support, the historic buildings bond had 52% support and the trail system bond had 56% support.

Question 5 was similarly difficult: 55% of voters were against reintroducing the previous design of the state flag with the pine tree and the blue star.
