Mayor O'Connell is ready to implement a new transit plan

The adoption of this measure, adopted by ordinance BL2024-427, allows the city government to complete the entire priority sidewalk network, combined with annual capital expenditures, and provide a significantly expanded 24-hour public transportation service, 365 days a year, including frequent connections on Main routes, added more neighborhood transit centers, improved safety for all road users, and upgraded and upgraded nearly two-thirds of the city's signalized intersections. The capital cost of this program is currently estimated at $3,096,000,000. Upon completion of construction, the estimated value of recurring annual operations and maintenance costs is approximately $111,000,000. The Metropolitan Transit Authority (WeGo), the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure, the Metro Planning Department and the Mayor's Office will be responsible for implementing the program in collaboration with other Metro departments. This program is funded by federal grants, revenue from public transit fares, debt, and a 0.5% sales tax surcharge. The tax surcharge will end once all debts for the public transportation improvement program have been paid and the City Council determines by resolution that the revenue from the tax surcharge is no longer needed to operate the program.
