Donald Trump's “overwhelming” election victory gave him a clear mandate to implement his campaign promises on the first day of his return to the White House, the Republican's national press secretary said.

Karoline Leavitt told Fox News shortly after Trump was declared the winner of the 2024 election over Kamala Harris that he would now be able to initiate “mass deportations” of illegal immigrants, expand oil production in the United States and reach a peace agreement between Russia and the United States Ukraine to negotiate and impose sanctions on Iran to “stop the chaos in the Middle East.”

Polls had frequently suggested the race between Trump and Harris was neck-and-neck, with 538's forecast models and veteran pollster Nate Silver suggesting the vice president was the narrow favorite. Instead, the Republican is on track to win the popular vote and potentially win all seven key battleground states.

Trump had previously stated that he would only act as a dictator if he returned to the White House on “day one” in January 2025 to implement his campaign policies. “I want to close the border and I want to drill, drill, drill,” Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity during a town hall event in December 2023. The inauguration is expected to take place on January 20, 2025.

Speaking to Fox News, Leavitt said Trump's clear victory means he can implement the campaign policies voters wanted when they supported him.

“The American people gave President Trump a resounding victory and give him the mandate to govern the campaign and deliver on the promises he made,” Leavitt said.

“This includes, on day one, launching the largest mass deportation operation of illegal immigrants that Kamala Harris has allowed into this country. “This includes exercises, baby exercises and accelerated approvals for nuclear power, fossil fuels and, above all, an energy approach.” This will reduce the cost of living in this country.

“That includes bringing Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table on day one to end this war and returning to very tough sanctions against the Iranian regime so we can stop the chaos in the Middle East.”

Leavitt said the election results show that the American people have a “longing” for Trump's policies.

“They despise the policies of the Harris (President Joe) Biden administration that have been implemented over the last four years, and the Harris-Biden administration will go down in history as the worst, weakest and most corrupt administration in the history of our country The Americans proved that last night.”

Leavitt added that neither Harris nor Biden had called Trump as of Wednesday morning to acknowledge or congratulate him on his victory.

According to The Associated Press, as of this writing, Trump has 277 Electoral College votes to Harris' 224, with the Republican leading in the three yet-to-be-named swing states of Arizona, Michigan and Nevada.

In his victory speech in Florida, Trump said his second presidential victory and the GOP regaining control of the Senate meant the American people had given the Republican Party an “unprecedented and powerful mandate.”

“This is a movement like no one has ever seen before, and frankly, in my opinion, this was the greatest political movement of all time,” Trump added.

“Something like this has never happened before in this country, maybe not, and now it will take on a new level of importance because we will help our country heal.”
