ABC News predicts Donald Trump will win Montana's four electoral votes.

Voters across Montana went to the polls on Election Day to cast their ballots for the presidential election as well as multiple rounds of votes for the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives.

As the vote continues, a key race in the U.S. Senate could determine which party controls the chamber in the next session.

The polls closed at 8 p.m. local time.

State significance

Montana is a reliably red state in presidential elections. In 2016 and 2020, it was about former President Donald Trump. Trump defeated President Joe Biden there by 17 percentage points in the last presidential cycle.

The state is the scene of a high-risk Senate race as Democrat Jon Tester seeks to retain his seat in the deep red state. He faces Republican candidate Tim Sheehy, a combat veteran and entrepreneur. The competition is considered crucial for the control of the chamber.

Voters will also determine the winners of two seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Also on the ballot is a measure to amend the state constitution to protect the right to make and carry out decisions about one's pregnancy, including the right to abortion.

Counties are colored red or blue when the percentage of expected votes reaches a set threshold. This threshold varies by state and is based on past voting reporting patterns and expectations about how voting will occur this year.
