Topline

Billionaire critic Mark Cuban congratulated Donald Trump, while pro-Trump Tesla boss Elon Musk boasted that the former president had taken the lead in every swing state on Tuesday night – even though the Associated Press has not yet called the election for Trump .

Important facts

Musk tweeted “Game, set and win” on Tuesday evening and later posted a photo of himself speaking to Trump at an election night party.

The billionaire also wrote: “America is a nation of builders” and “Soon you will be free to build” – followed by several other pro-Trump tweets.

Tech billionaire Palmer Luckey, the founder of Oculus VR, said “GG,” an acronym for good gaming, in a similar post, to which Musk responded “yes.”

The Associated Press predicted that not long after the billionaires' boasts, Trump won the electoral votes in North Carolina and Georgia, significantly increasing Trump's chances of victory – although a group of critical swing states have not yet been called by the AP.

Cuban, a Harris supporter and critic of Musk and Trump, congratulated the Republican presidential candidate, saying, “You won fair and square,” and also congratulated Musk.

What you should pay attention to

Trump's victories in North Carolina and Georgia increased his chances of winning and made an Electoral College victory almost certain if he wins Pennsylvania. Trump leads in all other swing states, including Pennsylvania, although some have outstanding ballots. The betting providers on Polymarket assume a 99 percent chance of a Trump victory.

Important background

Musk threw his support — and money — behind Trump this summer after the Republican presidential candidate was the victim of an assassination attempt. Since then, Musk has become one of Trump's most outspoken supporters, speaking at his rallies and demonstrating for the former president at several town halls in the swing state of Pennsylvania. Musk gave more than $118 million to his own Trump-supporting super PAC, America PAC, in the run-up to the election. His super PAC also gave away several $1 million checks to randomly selected swing state voters who signed a petition on America PAC's website. The $1 million prizes were challenged in court by the Philadelphia district attorney, but a city judge declined to issue an injunction blocking the raffles.

Forbes rating

We estimate Musk's net worth at $264.7 billion, making him the richest person in the world. Luckey is worth $2.4 billion and Cuban is worth $5.7 billion.
