Brown leads Rosen in race for U.S. Senate | Nevada | News

1 minute, 18 seconds Read

Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen trailed Republican candidate Sam Brown by over 9,000 votes in the race for Nevada's U.S. Senate seat on Tuesday night.

Brown received 48 percent of the vote compared to 47.2 percent for Rosen.

Polls consistently showed the junior senator from Nevada leading her Republican opponent throughout the election cycle, although it was unclear what impact the presidential election would have on other races on the ballot.

Nevada's final Senate election in 2022 was a nail-biter. The race wasn't called until four days later and Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto won re-election by less than 0.1 percentage points.

Rosen, a Henderson resident, was first elected to the Senate in 2018 and previously represented Nevada's 3rd Congressional District. She has a background in computer programming and serves on several Senate committees, including Armed Services, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. She is also co-founder and co-chair of the bipartisan Senate Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism and the Abraham Accords Caucus.

Brown, a Purple Heart veteran, has captured the attention of Nevadans with his story of surviving an explosion while deployed to Afghanistan.

He previously ran for office in Texas and then for the other Senate seat in Nevada in 2022, but did not make it past the primary.

The Reno resident, who moved to Nevada in 2018, worked at an Amazon fulfillment center and founded a company that provides emergency medication to veterans.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
