California election results: Kamala Harris retains control of the stronghold, securing 54 electoral votes in the state

Kamala Harris secured a decisive victory in California on Tuesday, securing the state's 54 electoral votes, the biggest prize in the 2024 presidential election. The result, in the heavily Democratic state where Harris once served as a U.S. senator and attorney general, was widely expected, was confirmed by the Associated Press.
At last count, Harris received 312,540 votes, while former President Donald Trump received 229,242 votes. California, the country's most populous state, has not supported a Republican candidate in a presidential race since 1988. The Republican Party has not faced a serious challenge in California since the 2000 election.
The state's political landscape is dominated by Democrats, whose registered voters outnumber Republicans by about 2 to 1. The Democratic Party controls all statewide offices and maintains a strong presence in the legislature and congressional delegation.
This victory is consistent with the 2020 and 2016 elections, where Democrats also triumphed in California. In 2020, Joe Biden won the state with 64% of the vote, while Trump only received 35%. It was similar in 2016, when Hillary Clinton won California with 62% of the vote, while Trump won 33%.
