Nylander made it 2-0 with another power play goal at 9:58. His pass from the goal line near the left corner bounced off the leg of Boston defender Brandon Carlo at the top of the goal crease.

Nylander has scored in four of his last five games (five goals).

“He’s Willy,” Toronto coach Craig Berube said. “He scores goals. He is a dynamic player. He's one of those offensive players where the puck goes to him. He knows where the puck is going, has a great shot, we all know that. His ability is outstanding, but he plays a good game all around and doesn’t just think about the offense.”

Stolarz secured the two-goal lead at 10:36 when he slid to his right to stop a Justin Brazeau one-timer on a 3-on-1.

“Some huge saves,” Marner said. “A couple of huge back door saves came across the goal crease. Stolarz has done that for us in this net all year, so kudos to him. Without him there definitely could have been a different game or a different result.”

Knies made it 3-0 at 14:13 of the third period when he blocked a shot from Nylander at the top of the goal crease.

“Our power play clicked,” Nylander said. “We scored my lucky goal which gave us a bit of a lift but our penalty shootout was great. We played a great special teams game tonight that was huge for our club, and Stolarz was obviously incredible.”
