Despite the heavy investment on the ground, intense campaigning at the top of the voter roll has sucked most of the air out of House candidates, said Adrienne Pickett, a Democratic consultant and founder of The Guerrilla Politic, a Detroit-based agency. which focuses primarily on elections about electing progressive women to state and local offices.

“Because of all the noise, it's really difficult for some of these election candidates to really get through,” Pickett said, adding that state legislative campaigns are being “drowned out” by extensive media buys for presidential and congressional candidates in battleground regions.

In such a crowded environment, that means Whitmer and other surrogates are focused on supporting the entire ticket in hopes that that success extends to House candidates, she continued: “Every little bit helps.”

Snyder, who recently completed a bus tour of campaign events in a dozen battleground House districts, said part of his motivation to return to politics stems from Democrats' actions he took in office to turn Michigan into one to bring a more competitive economic course were completely rejected or deviated from.

“Michigan is in decline again, and the decline is accelerating,” the former governor said. “There are many factors, but one of the main factors is what is going on in Lansing.”

He is optimistic about the prospect of change in the House because Republican candidates have “good, strong track records” and have a positive agenda to improve education and economic outcomes, Snyder said.

Snyder — who endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020 — has focused solely on campaigning for House candidates and is not participating in the presidential campaign, a stark contrast to Whitmer.

“Just by talking about anything at the top, you lose focus on the races in the House,” he told Bridge. “This is our backyard. This is our home. We can have a much bigger impact.”

Czuba, the pollster, said if Harris wins Michigan by at least two points and Democrats make significant gains in Oakland County, an area with several competitive races that continues to lean Democratic, House Democrats would have a chance of retaining the majority .
