Joe Rogan supports Donald Trump in the US election

Joe Rogan has thrown his support behind Donald Trump as Americans go to the polls in Tuesday's presidential election.

The podcaster said he was supporting the Republican after being persuaded in one of his interviews by tech billionaire Elon Musk, another prominent Trump supporter.

Rogan's support could carry significant weight with his young, male audience – a demographic that Trump has also courted hard in the run-up to the 2024 vote. Trump hailed the endorsement as “great” news.

Trump's rival, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, has received support from numerous other top celebrities, including musicians Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.

Ahead of Election Day on Tuesday, both campaigns have been working to win over undecided voters in an extremely close race.

Rogan's endorsement could reach a wide audience as he has more than 18 million subscribers on YouTube and more than 14 million followers on Spotify.

Trump himself appeared on the podcast last month and discussed topics ranging from the “biggest mistake” of his time in the White House to the question of whether alien life exists. Harris also appeared on podcasts during her campaign, although to a lesser extent.

According to the firm Edison Research, nearly 80% of Rogan's audience is men, half of whom are between the ages of 18 and 34. Trump's 2024 campaign focused on podcasts popular among younger men compared to traditional media.

The race has been described by pundits as a tale of men versus women – with Donald Trump holding a large lead among men in the polls and women telling pollsters they prefer Kamala Harris by a similarly large margin.

Katy Perry and Lady Gaga were among the stars who voiced their support for Harris on the eve of the election. And at a rally in swing state Pennsylvania, television host Oprah Winfrey appealed to voters to protect women's reproductive rights.

Meanwhile, Rogan declared his support for Trump, writing that Mr. Musk “makes, in my opinion, the most compelling pro-Trump case you will ever hear, and I agree with him every step of the way.”

To introduce his interview with Musk, Rogan praised “the great and powerful” Mr Musk himself on in battleground states.

Trump, who previously suggested he might reward Elon Musk with a job if he wins the vote, said at a rally that Rogan's support was “great” and “so nice.”

The endorsement appears to represent a significant political shift for Rogan. He once said he would “probably” vote for Sen. Bernie Sanders, a progressive who had previously sought the Democratic presidential nomination himself.

As recently as 2022, the podcaster said he didn't want to “help” Trump get elected because he was “an existential threat to democracy.” He previously supported Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was then running as an independent candidate for president.

Rogan, who ventured into podcasting after a career as a stand-up comedian, is known for hosting an ideologically diverse mix of guests.

At times, this editorial approach has caused him controversy – such as during the Covid pandemic, when he was accused of spreading misinformation about vaccines.
