JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO – Missouri voters in Jefferson County are dealing with widespread flooding on Election Day as heavy rains and flash floods have closed numerous roads across the region, creating access issues for many residents trying to reach polling places. With more rain expected throughout the afternoon, officials are urging caution on the roads and advising voters to allow extra time for safe travel.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, numerous local roads remain closed due to flooding, including portions of Konert Road, Old Highway M and New Highway 21 northbound. The sheriff's office has confirmed that certain polling locations are affected by closures, potentially forcing voters to take detours. Emergency responders are actively monitoring conditions and receiving updates through official channels throughout the day.

The National Weather Service extended the flash flood warning until 6:30 a.m. CST for Jefferson County, as well as portions of southeastern Franklin County and northern Washington County. The rain is expected to continue into the early afternoon, with gusty winds of up to 35km/h, exacerbating already dangerous conditions. Motorists are advised to avoid flooded areas and turn around rather than attempting to drive through floodwaters.

Residents can expect conditions to improve starting Wednesday, with partly sunny skies and temperatures reaching a high of 61 degrees. The five-day forecast shows mild weather over the weekend, but there is a slight chance of rain on Friday. Authorities encourage residents to stay updated on road and polling location updates on social media and the county's emergency page.

Voters are reminded to exercise patience and caution when traveling and to prioritize safety over speed when navigating alternate routes to polling locations.
