As the Nov. 5 general election approaches, residents across the Miss Lou area are preparing to go to the polls. However, a traditional map showing where Adams County and Concordia Parish residents should vote is not available for voters who may be unsure of their polling location following the recent redistricting.

But poll workers said that thanks to technology and phones, information about whether a person is registered to vote and where their voting precinct is is readily available.

Adams County

Adams County voters will join the rest of the country on Tuesday, November 5, in voting to elect a new president. Adams County voters will also elect a U.S. Senator and U.S. House Representative for the Second District, as well as a Supreme Court Justice.

Redistricting occurred in 2022, changing precincts and district boundaries for some voters throughout Adams County. And to complicate matters, voters will go to county precincts to cast their ballots – rather than the city precincts used in June's local elections.

Voters who have access to the internet can use the Mississippi Secretary of State's election website to ensure they are registered and to find their voting location. The website address is yallvote.ms. On this website, you can click “My Election Day” and enter your address to find your polling place, a sample ballot and current incumbents.

Additionally, Tracy Gaude, an Adams County elections commissioner, said anyone can contact the Adams County Election Commission office at 601-445-7905 from now until Election Day.

“I would like to point out that the election last June was a city election and people voted in their district. The November election is a county election and voters must go to their county voting precinct,” Gaude said. “This can be confusing for voters because the two are usually not the same thing. Anyone can call the elections office at 601-445-7905 to confirm their location.”

Each of Adams County's five supervisory districts has four voting districts each, except District 1, which has three voting districts.

Below is a list of districts with their name, location name and physical address.

Likewise, Louisiana voters with internet access can easily view their sample ballot, find out their voter registration status and find out their polling place by entering their information at voterportal.sos.la.gov.

Those unable to do so can always contact the Registrar of Voters' office at 318-336-7770 or visit the office at the Concordia Parish Courthouse, 4001 Carter St., Suite K, to find answers to any voting questions you may have.

“That’s what we’re here for,” said Concordia Parish voter registrar Golda Ensminger.

In addition to electing a new U.S. President, voters in Concordia Parish will also decide who represents the 5th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives and vote yes or no on a constitutional amendment to amend Article VII, Section 10.2 to create revenue to include energy generated from alternative or renewable energy sources and credited by the Treasurer to the Coastal Protection and Restoration Fund.

In Districts 1-1, 1-3, 1-4 and part of District 1-2, there will also be a special election to elect James Skipper or David Turner, both independents, as justice of the peace in District 1.

A portion of District 2-1 will not elect party candidate Kevin “Cajun” Friloux or independent Sheila Trust Gardner for Justice of the Peace in District 2.

District 4-1 will hold two special elections to elect Independent “Connie” Adair or independent candidate Veller Ray Carroll as the next Mayor of the Village of Ridgecrest and Democrat Gerald “G” White or Independent Don Lucas Williams as the Village Council of Ridgecrest Ridgecrest Village.

Like Adams County, Concordia Parish experienced redistricting in 2022 due to population shifts resulting from the 2020 decennial United States Census, which will shift some voters to a new voting district. Due to these population changes, the municipality also decided to merge several electoral districts and relocate its polling stations, as some districts did not have the minimum number of 200 registered voters for a electoral district.

The municipality is now divided into five districts with 18 different electoral districts, three of which share a polling station. They are as follows.

1-1, Ferriday Health Unit, 905 Mickey Gilley Ave.

1-2, Ferriday City Hall, 1116 Second St.
