PFF's fantasy football roundup focuses on player usage and stats, breaking down all the key information you need to achieve fantasy success in 2024.

Tennessee Titans @ Miami Dolphins

  • Tony Pollard: 22 carries, 88 yards, 1 touchdown, 2 receptions, 20 receiving yards
  • Tyjae spears: 15 carries, 39 yards, 1 touchdown, 2 receptions, 0 receiving yards

Titans rely heavily on the running game: Tyjae spears ran the ball much more than in any of his three previous appearances this season.

The Titans' reliance on Spears likely came down to quarterback Will Levis He left with a shoulder injury sustained while diving toward the first-down marker. Tennessee then took a lead early in the second quarter Bricklayer Rudolph at the helm and never let go.

The team's running back rotation was similar to previous weeks. Pollard played most of the early-down and short-yardage snaps, while Spears played most of the passing-down snaps. Pollard started the game and, like every week, played all of the early down snaps on the first drive. Pollard also took the early-down snaps on the second drive Spears started in each of the last two weeks. If anything, the Titans seemed to lean more toward Pollard early in the game.

The rest of the drives were a mix of Pollard taking all of the early-down snaps and Pollard and Spears splitting that work. As the game progressed, the Titans went faster and faster. Assuming Levis' injury is not serious, Spears is likely to be a candidate for sale. The Titans have their bye next week, giving Levis an extra week to recover.

The Titans continue their wide receiver rotation: DeAndre Hopkins played less than half of the offensive snaps in this game.

Hopkins played 27% of the snaps in Week 1, which looked like the Titans were loosening him up again due to injury. Over the last three games, his playing time has stabilized at around 45% of offensive snaps. He hasn't appeared on the injury report for the last three weeks other than a veteran's day of rest, so that appears to be Tennessee's plan for Hopkins all season.

Hopkins clearly has a tendency to play in passing situations Treylon Burks is at the door. Nick Westbrook Ikhine was more involved this week because of his run-blocking ability. It doesn't look like this rotation will be changing any time soon, making it difficult to move Hopkins into a fantasy starting lineup. It's fine to keep him in the middle of the season when your other fantasy wide receivers have bye weeks, but fantasy managers may be able to cut him in the final third of the season.

Jaylen Wright rises: The Dolphins' rookie running back was more involved this week.

Raheem Mostert missed his third straight game with a pectoral injury. In the Dolphins' last two games De'Von Achane was the clear starter with Wright and Jeff Wilson Jr. Time allocation in the backup role. Wilson suffered one Knee injury while warming up before the game and was found questionable. He ended up playing, but Wright was given the opportunity to be the primary substitute.

As a rookie, Achane averaged 7.8 yards per carry, but over the last three weeks he has averaged 3.5 yards per carry. He was even less efficient in this game, with 10 carries for 15 yards. Achane particularly struggled when playing with eight men in the penalty area, and defenses often used eight men in the penalty area anyway Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback.

This led the team to turn to Wright, who was slightly more effective as a runner. Wright was exhausted received almost as many transmissions as Achane. Achane spent some of Wright's playing time in the backfield, often lining up at wide receiver on third downs.

It will be interesting to see what big role Wright plays in the future, especially when Mostert returns. It's fine to have him on your fantasy roster, but it will likely take the Dolphins' quarterback situation to be sorted out before Wright has a chance at fantasy value.

Various notes

The Titans continued with their usual tight end rotation. Chig Okonkwo rarely played on the 12-man team and took most of the snaps on the 11-man team Josh Whyle He's also involved. Okonkwo has yet to gain more than 16 yards in a game this season.

The Dolphins also continued their tight end rotation Jonnu Smith play in 11 personnel and Julian Hill And Durham Smythe plays on the 12-man team, as well as one of the two blockers who plays on the 21-man team if Alec Ingold is on the field. Smith had the only good game with six passes for 53 yards, but in the other three games combined he only caught three passes for 25 yards.

Dolphins rookie wide receiver in the sixth round Malik Washington was inactive for the first three weeks but was active for this game.

Seattle Seahawks @ Detroit Lions

Kenneth Walker III returns in a big way: Walker missed the last two weeks with an oblique injury but returned and enjoyed a three-touchdown performance.

During Walker's absence Zach Charbonnet was a feature running back and played 121 of 134 possible snaps in two games. Only Saquon Barkley logged more offensive snaps at running back over the span. Charbonnet has typically been the Seahawks' running back, but he's looked good as a runner these weeks, rushing for 129 yards on 32 carries and three touchdowns, which makes it seem like this might be a by-committee situation.

Despite Charbonnet's strong play and Walker perhaps not being at 100%, the running backs' roles were similar to Week 1. Walker played a higher percentage of early down snaps than in Week 1, but Charbonnet completed some goal line and Two-minute exercises snaps. In Week 1, Walker took care of all of those plays. Charbonnet didn't get his first carry until the fourth quarter.

Walker can easily be inserted into fantasy starting lineups regardless of the opponent. The Lions were the second-best team at preventing fantasy points to running backs last season and have been the best team so far this season, so Walker's strong play was notable. Charbonnet can stay on the fantasy roster – but only as a handcuff for Walker.

Noah Fant's role decreases: Despite Seattle's offseason changes as head coach and offensive coordinator, Fant finds himself in another rotation at tight end.

In recent years, Fant couldn't be counted on in fantasy because the Seahawks did Colby Parkinson And Will Disslyresulting in strong rotation at the position. Through the first two weeks of 2024, Fant played a much better role, playing 76% of snaps at 11 and 84% of snaps at 12.

As a veteran last week, everything changed Pharaoh Brown returned from injury. Fant only played half of the 11-person snaps as a rookie AJ Barner and Brown were the primary tight ends on the 12th squad. This week was similar to last, except Fant's Snaps rates were slightly higher at 11 people and 12 people. As a result, there was still a high percentage of passing plays where he wasn't on the field.

Fant caught two passes for 26 yards, marking his third game of the season in which he was held to 26 or fewer yards. While some fantasy managers may be looking for a tight end, especially with bye weeks approaching, Fant is probably not the solution.

Sam LaPorta takes a positive step: LaPorta had his best game of the season despite being questionable with an ankle injury.

LaPorta had not lived up to his draft standard, never having more than four catches and 53 yards in the first three weeks. Because of the injury, LaPorta was unable to finish last week's game. He didn't practice on Thursday, but was fully involved on Friday and Saturday and made it clear he would play.

LaPorta was in his usual role and played the clear majority of the snaps. Last week he took steps in the right direction with 2.25 yards per route run, and this week he's maintained that number, with a much higher target rate and more yards per route run. The Lions only threw the ball 19 times, so the fact that LaPorta had four catches with such a low passing volume was a positive. LaPorta can safely remain in the fantasy starting lineup and should still be considered a top five option at the position.

Various notes

The Seahawks' fourth wide receiver Jake Bobo ran more pass routes in this game than in any of the previous three weeks. This led to his best receiving game of the season (three receptions for 30 yards).

The Lions started the game with David Montgomery much more in the first quarter than in the previous two weeks. He ran the ball eight times in the quarter Jahmyr Gibbs played only four snaps. Gibbs caught up in both playing time and chances as the game progressed.

The Lions have their bye next week, so be prepared to have short-term replacements for their veteran players.

Table notes

Snaps include plays that are called back due to penalties, including offensive holding or defensive pass interference. These plays have been removed from the other three statistics.

Goals may vary from official NFL sources. The most likely discrepancy would be a clearly thrown away pass, where the NFL might pass the target to the closest receiver, whereas this data does not.

Carries only occur on designed plays. Quarterback scrambles do not count toward the total number of carries in the game.
