Patrick Mahomes' sudden injury scare all but confirms the Chiefs' worst nightmare

1 minute, 22 seconds Read

In Week 9 against the Buccaneers, the Chiefs almost had their worst nightmare come true when superstar QB Patrick Mahomes had to be carried to the sideline after suffering an apparent knee injury.

He was injured during a game-winning TD pass to Samaje Perine and tied the game at 17 early in the fourth quarter. After spending time with trainers, Mahomes returned to the game and looked OK.

An injured Mahomes is the only thing that could be rattled and hoping for a three-point shot this season. The broadcast said it was a reported ankle injury and we saw how badly that affected him two years ago.

At first glance this seemed to be a serious problem. The collective hearts of all Chiefs Kingdom fell until Mahomes returned triumphant. The crowd roared as they realized how close they were to disaster against Tampa Bay.

As long as Mahomes stays healthy, this is still, without question, the best team in the NFL. Carson Wentz is a capable backup, but he won't be on the field unless the Chiefs are starters in a worst-case scenario.

Mahomes appeared unaffected by the injury and led the offense down the field in the rain on the ensuing drive. We'll see what he says after the game and what head coach Andy Reid's comments are.

It was a terrible moment, but it seems okay. Chiefs fans can breathe a sigh of relief because QB1 is still on the field.
