The Kansas City Chiefs are in the midst of a stellar 2024 season as the league's only undefeated team enters their “Monday Night Football” matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 9.

The reigning Super Bowl champions were the norm and were without their two best wide receivers, Rashee Rice and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

They were also without running back Isiah Pacheco, who has been out since suffering a leg injury in Week 2. Following the injury, the Chiefs placed the running back on IR and he has not yet returned to action.

Last season, Pacheco led the Chiefs backfield with 205 carries for 935 yards and seven touchdowns.

Here's the latest on Isiah Pacheco's injury and possible return:

When will Isiah Pacheco return?

On Sunday, November 3, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Pacheco is targeting a late November return.

The Chiefs have five games scheduled in November. With the reported schedule, a return for Pacheco in Week 12 on the road against the Panthers on November 24th or Week 13 at home against the Raiders on November 29th (Black Friday) seems feasible, barring any setbacks.

Dr. Robert Anderson performed the procedure on Pacheco's broken fibula on September 18th. According to Rapoport, there were no complications and no ligament problems during the surgery. Pacheco's time frame for return was at least six weeks and as much as eight weeks after surgery.

When did Isiah Pacheco's injury occur?

Pacheco suffered his leg injury in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season when the Chiefs played the Cincinnati Bengals.

Pacheco's injury occurred after the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter when he took a carry on first up the middle for a yard gain. He was quickly surrounded by three Bengals defenders and leaned backwards as he was tackled from behind during the play.

Pacheco did not return to the field after the injury and was seen in the locker room after the game in walking boots and on crutches.

Chiefs RB depth chart

The Chiefs only have three running backs on their 53-man roster. They are as follows:

Hunt was signed as a free agent and paid dividends. The veteran was signed before Week 3 and quickly promoted from the practice squad. Hunt leads the team with 308 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns.
