Luke Goedeke details the evolution of the Bucs' strong front line – JoeBucsFan.com

Proud of Bucs' front five.

Since right tackle Luke Goedeke returned to the starting lineup after a concussion penalty, the Bucs' offensive line has taken a huge step forward.

Just look back at last week's game against the Dixie Chicks. There were big holes in the pipe. Some of the holes were so big that even Rachaad White couldn't miss them.

Blocking in the pass? Baker Mayfield was never touched in 52 dropbacks. It's crazy to think about it.

Last week, Joe Goedeke asked why he thinks the line has made great strides despite being mostly rookies.

“We feel very comfortable with each other,” said Goedeke. “I think we have a great camaraderie. On offense it's important that we trust each other.

“Like everyone has their (job) and we trust that the guy next to you is going to do his job, whether it's helping on a double team, providing protection, even blocking a guy, whatever.” it can be.

“It speaks volumes.”

Goedeke said the line's development was a little surprising only because the linemen were mostly new to each other, he said.

“We’re all a pretty new unit,” Goedeke said. “It was just me and (right guard) Cody (Mauch) playing next to each other, and that was just one year.

“So I can only believe that the offensive line will continue to grow.”

When former college basketball coach Bobby Knight was stomping and shouting on the courts, he always said the key to development was “not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win.” Goedeke believes his fellow offensive linemen have that trait have.

“I think this development shows how seriously we take our business,” said Goedeke. “I think we will only continue to improve over time.”

As for tonight's game against the Chiefs, Goedeke said the Bucs need to be ready for anything because the Chiefs are doing a very good job defensively and not turning over pitches.

“The Chiefs are really good at disguising their defense,” Goedeke said. “That’s why they do such good work.”
