New Hampshire Republican congressional candidate Lily Tang Williams criticized her opponent Maggie Goodlander on Thursday, claiming the Democrat's wealth has left her out of touch with Americans.

Goodlander, a former Justice Department official, suggested during a Thursday debate on local news station WMUR that Williams favored trickle-down economics. This theory, popularized by former President Ronald Reagan, suggests that tax cuts for large corporations would benefit the entire economy.

“I believe the middle class deserves a tax cut, and I believe we will do a lot for this country by making sure we don't continue these disastrous tax policies,” Goodlander said.

Williams shot back, accusing the former Biden administration official of hypocrisy.

“They’re rich,” Williams said. “They're worth $20 to $30 million. How do you know that normal people are suffering?”

“Are you going shopping?” she pressed. “Go to Walmart? Buy food? I talk to these people. And you pretend to be a renter in Nashua a few months ago and come back to run for that vacant seat with millions of dollars from Washington, DC, Insider.”

Former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. endorsed Williams after the debate, saying he was “so impressed” with the Republican's performance.

“Maggie Goodlander is one of the queens of the neoconservatives. “These are the people who supported the Patriot Act or the surveillance and censorship state and who have kept us in a constant state of war,” he said.

Kennedy also referred to Goodlander's husband, Jake Sullivan, who has served as President Joe Biden's national security adviser since 2021.

Williams is from China, where she was born under communist leader Mao Zedong. On her website she writes: “I fear the country I love will become the country I left.”
