LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Lancaster County's election commissioner has addressed a viral social media video that falsely accuses a voter of being a “voter mule.” Video posted by a member of a conspiracy group shows a man on a skateboard returning his ballot and suggests he was involved in illegal activity.

Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen said his office reviewed surveillance footage from the ballot box and confirmed that the man was simply voting in his first presidential election.

“It is shameful and un-American to intimidate and threaten anyone for exercising their right to vote,” Wiltgen said.

The video sparked security concerns as social media comments threatened the voter. The Election Commissioner's Office contacted the Lincoln Police Department and reached out to the voter to ensure his safety.

Wiltgen criticized the group for spreading false information and called on them to remove the video and apologize. As of Monday, 3:45 p.m., the video had 1.5 million views on X. While the original poster confirmed Wiltgen's statement, the video remains online.

For further inquiries, residents may contact the Election Commissioner's Office at (402) 441-7311.
