INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Preparation for the 2024 general election is almost over.

Millions of Hoosiers will go to the polls on Tuesday to vote for president, governor, U.S. senator and other state and local offices.

Here's what you need to know for Election Day.

When can I vote?

On election day, polling stations open at 6 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. All times apply locally.

If you are standing in line when the polls close at 6 p.m., you can still vote.

Where is my polling station?

Indiana law says you must vote in the county where you are registered. Some counties have special precinct polling places, while other counties have polling places set up that allow you to vote outside your precinct.

What do I need to bring with me?

Every voter must present a government-issued photo ID before casting their vote on Election Day.

Indiana's photo ID law states that your ID must meet the following requirements:

1. View your photo
2. Display your name. The name must match your voter registration record
3. Indicate an expiration date and must either be current or have expired sometime after the last general election (November 8, 2022).
4. Issued by the State of Indiana or the United States Government.

In most cases, an Indiana driver's license, Indiana photo ID, military ID, or U.S. passport is sufficient.

If you cannot provide photo identification when you arrive on Election Day, you may cast a “provisional ballot.” In order for your provisional ballot to be counted, you must provide photo identification to your county board of elections no later than 13 days after Election Day at noon.

All BMV locations in Indiana will provide free state-issued identification cards on Monday and Tuesday. The BMV branches are open Mondays until 8 p.m. and Tuesdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m

What can't I wear to the election?

Indiana campaign law prohibits voters, poll workers and poll watchers from wearing clothing or items that promote a candidate, party or preference on a ballot question. This includes articles with images, photos or likenesses of currently elected officials.

I am disabled. Can someone help me vote?

Yes. If you have a disability or cannot read or write and need assistance casting your vote, a poll worker can help you or You can choose another person to support you. If you choose someone else to help you, that person must not be your employer or your union representative.

You must Ask for help before entering the voting booth.

What voting rights do I have?

The U.S. Constitution says I have the right to participate in civic life.

• If I am registered to vote in Indiana, I have the right to vote in this election.
• I have the right to vote alone or with help, and I can choose who I want to support.
• Even if I have a conservator, I can vote unless a court has specifically said I can't.
• I have the right to choose the way I want.
• I have the right to get help if someone tries to stop me from voting.
• I have the right to find out how to make my choice on my ballot paper.
• If I stand in line when the polls close, I must be allowed to vote.
