Surfers love the new surf-themed Toyota 4Runner TRD!

“Toyota goes old school and transforms a 2025 4Runner TRD Limited into a homage to the original with the 4Runner TRD Surf concept.”

Any surfer worth his salt knows it that sliding waves only make up a small part of the entire work. Most of a good surfing life is your choice of clothing (e.g. Florence.

One of the biggest ticket items is, of course, what you drive.

A few years ago, Korean manufacturer Hyundai released the Santa Cruz, and surfers around the world raved about the surf-forward design (minus a bed that was too small for anything other than a Mini-Simmons). So you can imagine the thrill with Toyota's new model retro concept, the 4Runner TRD Surf.

Per Can and driver:

When the first Toyota 4Runner came onto the market in 1984, the off-roader featured two doors and a removable fiberglass rear canopy. While the 4Runner remains a close relative of Toyota's midsize pickup offering, it has become more practical over the years, featuring four doors and a hard-mounted roof. But for the 2024 SEMA Show, Toyota went old school and transformed a 2025 4Runner TRD Limited into an homage to the original with the 4Runner TRD Surf concept.

The most noticeable change is that the TRD Surf has two fewer doors, giving the concept a short wheelbase and a purposeful stance. The concept is also two inches wider and rides on huge 37-inch tires wrapped around 17-inch custom wheels, adding to the macho look. The deep blue paint is accented by turquoise, which can be found in the stripes on the hood, the Toyota emblem in the grille, a lowercase “Turbo” lettering along the doors and a series of stylized curves intended to mimic waves on the outer edges of the engine front bumper.

I'm currently in Las Vegas and headed to the SEMA Gala tonight like lady uck wanted, where the SUV's debut is taking place. I promise you, dear reader, that I will look for it and see it and report on its core factor.

Undoubtedly more so as the story develops.

But what's the best surf vehicle you've ever owned?
