Suspect is at large after police chase ends in crash on Sullivans Island

(UPDATE) The suspect involved in Monday morning's chase and crash on Sullivans Island was located and arrested at the scene, according to ABC 4 reporters.

According to reports, the accident and subsequent search began around 3:30 a.m. and the suspect was found at 6:30 a.m

The suspect was found on theMount pleasant side of Ben Sawyer Boulevard, and was detained without issue.

(ORIGINAL STORY) A suspect is at large after a police chase that led to a crash on Sullivans Island Monday morning.

According to a statement from Sullivans Island police, a man fled from officers after a botched traffic stop.

The subject continued to flee the scene until his vehicle crashed on the 2800 block of Brownell Avenue and fled on foot.

There is currently a heavy police presence on the island as officers continue to search for the driver. Officials say there is no indication the individual is armed or poses a threat to the community.

The driver is described as male with olive skin, dark brown or black hair, 1.80 m tall and wearing a blue jogging suit. He may have fled the crash site east toward Isle of Palms.

Residents in the area are advised to call 911 if they notice anything suspicious.
