CLEVELAND – Jameis Winston will continue to start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns despite throwing three interceptions in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, coach Kevin Stefanski said.

The loss dropped Cleveland to 2-7, the worst record in the NFL as the team enters its bye week.

“Yes,” Stefanski said when asked if Winston would keep his starting spot. “And those are the things that we just have to play better as a team.”

A week after leading the Browns to an upset win over the Baltimore Ravens and winning the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award, Winston struggled in his second start of the season. He completed 26 of 46 passes for 235 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. Winston was also sacked six times.

Cleveland managed just 57 net yards in the first half and trailed 20-3 at halftime. Winston's interceptions each came in the second half.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Bailey Zappe, who were signed off the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad on Oct. 22, are the other quarterbacks on the Browns' active roster. Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending torn right Achilles tendon in Week 7.

“Complementary football wins every day,” Winston said. “And as quarterback, my job is to lead our team into the end zone. And we haven’t done that enough.”

“The biggest thing is we have to eliminate plays that beat us,” he said later. “I had three of them and we all know the plays that we can help this team with. So that's just responsibility and I think we'll embrace that. Having a week to really process how we can get better is needed.”
