The NBA says it is reopening an investigation into Los Angeles Lakers center Jaxson Hayes after video of an incident involving his ex-girlfriend was released.

TMZ posted a video on its website Sunday morning about an incident from July 28, 2021, showing Hayes in an argument with Sofia Jamora.

“Based on the media report and video released this morning, we are reopening our investigation,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement to ESPN.

Hayes can be seen pulling Jamora out of a door in the nearly six-minute video.

In the video, Jamora can be heard pleading: “Stop. Let me go.”

Hayes then says, “What the hell is wrong with you?”

Jamora then says, “I won't let you hit me anymore.” “What the hell do I look like, like a punching bag?”

Hayes walks away from Jamora and then spits in her direction.

Hayes, who was playing for the New Orleans Pelicans at the time of the incident, was arrested and charged with a dozen counts of pushing a police officer before being tasered and then taken into custody.

Hayes ultimately pleaded no contest to charges of false imprisonment and resisting an officer and was ordered to pay restitution. He was sentenced to three years probation, 450 hours of community service and one year of weekly domestic violence classes.

Hayes, 24, is in his second season with the Lakers and is averaging 5 points and 4.2 rebounds in a reserve role this season.
