John Mulaney had some kind words during his hosting Saturday Night Live.

The 42-year-old comedian hosted the November 2 episode, where Chappell Roan joined him as a musical guest.

During his opening monologue, Mulaney talked about life as a father of two. The comedian and his wife, actress Olivia Munn, welcomed their daughter Méi June via surrogate on September 14. The couple also has two-year-old son Malcolm Hiệp.

“I was great. My wife and I just welcomed a baby girl into our family,” he said to cheers from the audience.

“We have a five-week-old daughter,” he explained, and a “two-year-old son.”

“My wife takes care of the 5-week-old child and I go out with the two-year-old. And that’s not fair,” Mulaney joked.

He continued with a playful analogy to differences in childcare: “It’s not an even distribution of work at all. If you say you have a five-week-old child, I'll take a two-year-old child. That's like saying, 'I'm going to transport this.' Convict crossing state lines, you're holding a potato in your hand.

Later, at the end of the show, as the cast, guest starters and host were on stage, Mulaney took a moment to call his children after thanking others involved in the show.

“Goodnight Malcom, goodnight Méi,” he said and waved at the camera.

Mulaney appeared in a number of skits throughout the night, including one that featured a cameo from Pete Davidson.

The Saturday Night Live The 30-year-old alum appeared in a sketch called “Port Authority Duane Reade,” in which he and cast member Andrew Dismukes shopped at a Duane Reade store in Port Authority.

Davidson wore a white Rodney Dangerfield t-shirt for the skit and his arms were noticeably less tattooed than in recent years, with some very faded ink on his forearms and a few tattoos still visible in his upper arms.

Davidson recently stepped out to attend the sneak preview of “The Room” at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California on October 23, and revealed a more stripped-back look, with his arms appearing almost entirely devoid of tattoos. The comedian and actor first spoke about getting his tattoos removed in 2020.

Elsewhere on the show, Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance in the cold open just three days before the presidential election.

Maya Rudolph reprized her role as Vice President in the skit, which featured Harris, 60, appearing in the mirror opposite Rudolph toward the end, wearing a matching outfit.

Host Mulaney was a writer on the long-running sketch comedy show for five years, starting in 2008 – the same year his recurring character Stefon, whom he co-created with cast member Bill Hader, made his “Weekend Update” debut.

The comedian initially moderated SNL in 2018 during Season 43 and joined the show's Five-Timers Club in 2022, a group of stars who have hosted the show five or more times. Christopher Walken, Emma Stone, Justin Timberlake and Alec Baldwin are just a few of the other club members.

Earlier this year, Mulaney narrated the audiobook Glory Days, a collection of short stories by the former SNL Author Simon Rich, published in July. The comedian also recently starred in John Mulaney Presents: Everybody's in LAa six-day live event that was part of this year's Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival.
