Jaylen Brown missed Saturday's game against the Hornets as he battles a lingering hip injury.

Brown told Gary Washburn about it The Boston Globethat he plans to have the hip examined by doctors and have some medical scans done. He sprained his hip in the third quarter of Friday's game.

“I had an MRI done in training camp and it’s been on and off ever since,” Brown said. “(Friday) I think I extended it a little bit more and it was already causing me some problems. I need to get another MRI and move on from there.”

Saturday's game was the first that Brown has missed this season. He averaged 35.8 minutes in the Celtics' first five games, including 37 on Friday night. He averages 25.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

Brown said he doesn't enjoy missing games. He added that the injury concerns him and would not say whether he would be available to return against the Hawks.

According to Washburn, the first MRI showed fluid in the area.

“I didn’t feel like my legs were underneath me and I was struggling with that hip flexor,” Brown said. “It affects more of my explosion and breakout. And then I mentally try to figure it out too. When I think about it, it messes things up a little bit, but I’ll be fine.”

Brown played in 70 games last season, his highest total since the 2018-19 season. The Celtics star has never missed more than 15 games in a season.

With the win against the Hornets on Saturday, the Celtics improved to 6-1. They were without Kristaps Porzingis, who is rehabbing after surgery on his left posterior tibialis tendon.
