Jaylen Brown injury: Celtics star to undergo second MRI (Report)

1 minute, 51 seconds Read

While the Celtics were relatively healthy to start the season, aside from Kristaps Porzingis, one of their stars was hampered by a lingering injury. Jaylen Brown revealed to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe that his left hip flexor problem has been bothering him since training camp.

Brown told Washburn that he had an MRI scan of the flexor muscle two weeks ago and he plans to have another one in the next few days. The first MRI revealed some fluid, Brown said, as that affected his play in the first few weeks. Brown missed his first game of the season against the Hornets on Saturday.

“I didn’t feel like my legs were underneath me and I was struggling with that hip flexor,” Brown told the Globe. “It affects more of my explosion and breakout. And then I mentally try to figure it out too. When I think about it, it messes things up a little bit, but I’ll be fine.”

Brown has averaged 25.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 36.0 minutes per game in his six games so far. Although he's had a hot start to the season shooting the ball, his shooting percentage has dropped to 26.7% on 3-pointers and 40.0% overall. Brown said he doesn't like missing games early in the season, but it sounds like an injury he'll have to deal with in the future.

On the other hand, the Celtics have the luxury of being able to be cautious with Brown if the injury needs some rest. They have the depth to handle Brown's absence, and while he may not want to miss games, it's still early in the season. Regardless, the team will do what's best for Brown as there is still plenty of time left in the season – and more importantly, the team expects another strong playoff run.

The Celtics were mostly healthy to start the year. Porzingis is still out, which was expected after offseason surgery. But elsewhere they haven't had any major injuries like other teams earlier this season.
