The Auburn Tigers were unable to find a way to finish offenses in their 17-7 loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores, which has been a persistent problem for them this season.

Despite outgaining the Commodores 327 yards to 227, Auburn went 2 of 13 on third-down conversions and had to rely on punter Oscar Chapman six times.

This is nothing new for the Tigers as it is a constant struggle for them to find ways to end drives by putting up points.

“We just couldn’t do it,” Freeze said. “Whether it's finishing drives with points from our field goal unit or not converting third downs, we struggled with all of that today. I’m definitely disappointed that we couldn’t match last week’s performance.”

Auburn's defense once again had a solid performance, holding Vanderbilt to 227 total yards of offense in the second half and holding that to 95 yards. The Commodores' leading rusher, Sedrick Alexander, was held to 28 yards and their leading receiver, Quincy Skinner Jr., was held to 30 yards.

“I thought our defense did their best and played well enough to win and probably did their best job all year against this team,” Freeze said.

With the Tigers having already lost six games, it's officially time to decide if they want to go bowling this winter. In its remaining three games, Auburn will face two ranked teams, No. 10 Texas A&M at home and No. 13 Alabama on the road.

The Tigers will take the final three games “one game at a time.”

“One practice at a time, starting next week,” Freeze said. “We’re not going down that path, it’s just the stack days that allow us to get better.”

Despite a series of unsatisfactory results this season, the Tigers are determined not to give up. Staying focused can be a challenge for any team that finds itself in this situation, but Auburn is determined to get there.

“I think it’s important to finish whatever you do,” Freeze said. “The easiest thing for people to check is in life or in football, that's what the voices will tell so many.” That's one of the things I'm proud of in this team. I don’t think they gave in to that and checked out.”

Auburn has a week before being tasked with winning three straight games to achieve bowl eligibility. The Tigers return to action against UL-Monroe in two weeks at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. CT and SEC Network will televise the event.
