Arkansas Football vs. Ole Miss: Rebels destroy the Hogs

5 minutes, 22 seconds Read

FAYETTEVILLE – A pass barrage from No. 18 Ole Miss left Arkansas' football defense in the dust as the Rebels (7-2, 3-2 SEC) cruised to a 63-31 victory on Saturday.

The Razorbacks (5-4, 3-3) allowed 562 yards passing and failed to contain Ole Miss wide receiver Jordan Watkins, who had 254 yards receiving and five touchdowns. The five points represent a single-game record for an SEC receiver.

Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart finished the game with 25 of 31 yards passing for 515 yards, and three of his touchdowns for Watkins were at least 60 yards through the air. Ole Miss defeated Arkansas 694-492.

On offense, the Hogs couldn't protect their quarterback. Arkansas allowed eight sacks and the Razorbacks went with Malachi Singleton in the second half after Taylen Green suffered a right leg injury in the first quarter.

  • The Rebels defensive tackle scores with a short touchdown run, extending the Rebels' lead to 49-17 with 6:59 remaining in the third quarter.

Second quarter

  • Matthew Shipley fails to convert on a 45-yard attempt, and the Hogs' deficit is still 28-10 with 1:10 left in the first half. Now the Rebels can extend their lead before halftime.

  • The Rebels marched 75 yards in 11 plays and scored another touchdown to extend their lead to 14-3. Arkansas' secondary currently has no answer for the pass catchers at Dart and Ole Miss.

First quarter

  • Matthew Shipley converts a 55-yard field goal to cut Ole Miss' lead to 7-3, but the bigger news is an injury to quarterback Taylen Green early in the drive.
  • A sack by TJ Dottery released the ball, and Umanmielen eventually fell on it for Ole Miss' touchdown. E'Marion Harris was hit badly by a blitz on the right side of the line and the Rebels led 7-0.
  • Just like last week, the Hogs prevent Ole Miss from capping a long drive with a fourth-down stuff just inches from the end zone. Hudson Clark and Anton Juncaj were responsible for the tackling. Lane Kiffin wanted the timeout for a pre-snap review but didn't get it. It's still scoreless with 7:43 left in the first quarter.
  • A holding penalty and a sack on third down ended the Hogs' first drive of the game. A line drive punt by Devin Pale means Ole Miss will start at its own 23.
