Elite 2025 Five-Star guard Darryn Peterson is committed to Kansas basketball

After a competitive recruiting process, five-star guard Darryn Peterson, the top-ranked combo guard in the Class of 2025, has officially committed to the Kansas Jayhawks.

Live from CBS Sports headquarters, guard Eric Bossi told 247Sports that he will soon be donning the crimson and blue.

The Jayhawks made Peterson their priority early on, as head coach Bill Self and his staff recognized his potential to be a cornerstone of the program's future. Now that his signing is sealed, Kansas has managed to land one of the most dynamic players in the country, a move that will undoubtedly elevate the Jayhawks in the future.

Ranked as the No. 3 overall 2025 prospect by 247Sports, Peterson is celebrated for his rare skill set and unmatched versatility.

At 6'3″ tall, with a 6'8″ wingspan and 8'4″ standing reach, he has the size, strength and athleticism to make him a formidable presence on both ends of the court. His ability to generate offense is exceptional, combining a deadly jump shot with elite ball-handling skills. Defenses struggled to contain him as he can easily create his own shot and weave through coverage with ease.

These skills truly put him in a class of his own among his peers.

Before his recent move to Prolific Prep in Napa, California – currently the top high school basketball program in the country – Peterson showcased his skills at Huntington Prep in West Virginia.

There he averaged an impressive 23.1 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game during the 2022-2023 season. His commitment to improving his game led him to Prolific Prep, where he continued to develop in elite competition and prepared well for the intensity of college basketball.

Peterson chose the Jayhawks over numerous programs, including Ohio State, USC and Kansas State.

For Kansas, Peterson not only brings an offensive arsenal, but also a real defensive presence.

With his length and athleticism, he is able to challenge shots and dominate in transition, where his speed gives him an advantage over defenders. As a passer, he has the vision to make plays easier for his teammates, making him a true dual-threat guard who offers Kansas multiple options in the backcourt.

Peterson is the first player in the Jayhawks' 2025 class, but he's just the beginning as Kansas aims to build a legendary recruiting class.
