The autumn cold with strong winds leaves its mark on the Las Vegas Valley.

A wind advisory is in effect for the Las Vegas Valley and surrounding areas until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, winds that gusted up to 45 mph at each of the valley's three airports and the Red Rock National Conservation Area eased slightly Monday but were still 27-35 at the airports Monday evening miles per hour.

“With this weather pattern, gusts are typically strongest during the day,” said meteorologist Chris Outler. “The cold front is expected to move through the valley between midnight and 2 a.m., dropping temperatures and changing winds from the north and northwest.”

Some sprinkles are possible Tuesday morning, but only about 20 percent.

“We may see something or nothing at all,” Outler said.

By 4 p.m., wind gusts had eased to about 30 mph at the valley's three airports and to about 40 mph at Nellis Air Force Base.

According to a Federal Aviation Administration website, departing flights at Harry Reid International Airport were delayed about 15 minutes because of the wind at 8:30 p.m. During the lunch hour there were average delays of 75 minutes.

NV Energy shut down lines serving 466 customers in the Mount Charleston area just before 7:45 p.m. Monday to reduce the risk of wildfires. Electricity to residents is expected to be out until 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to an NV Energy spokeswoman.

According to the weather service, valley temperatures on Tuesday will reach highs of around 70 degrees, but low temperatures Tuesday morning will be below 50 degrees.
