Garrett Wilson says the Jets were 'better than we played'

With the Jets looking to end a five-game losing streak, WR Garrett Wilson delivered two spectacular one-handed touchdown grabs that sparked the Green & Whites 21-1310 victory over the Houston Texans on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium.

“We really needed and wanted to get in the win column,” Wilson said. “Losing so many games in a row felt exactly like you would expect. We are better than we played and tonight was our time to prove it. It's a good win because it gives us a start. “We preached and talked about it in the facility.”

After the Jets went scoreless in the first half, Wilson was limited to 2 receptions for 9 yards. On the first drive of the second half, he broke the seal and scored a 212-yard touchdown. The PAT tied the game at 7-7.

On second-and-12 from the Houston 21-yard line, QB Aaron Rodgers, slacking off the pressure, let the ball out in front of Wilson, and he caught it with one hand at the 15-yard line before running it in the end zone.

“It was a drag route against man coverage,” Wilson said. “And even though I thought I was going to drag across the field, Aaron threw it perpendicular to me at the last second. He threw a great ball to get it around the safety and I went up and made a play and then turned around and there was no one in front of me. It worked in my favor.

Rodgers completed 4 of 5 pass attempts on the 11-play, 70-yard scoring drive, including 2 to Wilson, for 31 yards.

“We went in at halftime and just realized there was going to be some adversity coming our way,” Wilson said. “And the problem was that we had such a goalless first half. We felt like we were playing good football but nothing was going our way. We found a way in the second half.”

On the Jets' next offensive possession, after a Houston field goal to retake the lead 10-7, Wilson surpassed his earlier attack. On third-and-19 from the Texans' 26-yard line, Rodgers dropped back and threw a pass to Wilson, who was running toward the end zone. Wilson jumped up, caught the pass with his right hand and landed near the backline of the end zone.
