Alex Nedeljkovic made 22 saves for the Penguins (4-7-1), who have been outscored 26-13 in their last six games (0-5-1) and have allowed at least four goals in each of their last seven games.

“I thought it was one of our most complete games,” Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan said. “I thought we controlled the territory. We played more of a north-south game that went straight. … We're not jeopardizing our offense by playing a more calculated game. This is the conversation we have with the group.

“We won’t score points to be successful. We will defend our path to success. This is the message we preach to the group. I thought a lot of guys competed tonight and played extremely well.”

Dostal made 44 saves and Alex Killorn scored a goal for the Ducks (4-4-2), who lost three of four games on a road trip.

“Pittsburgh played a great game,” Anaheim coach Greg Cronin said. “They were criticized by the media and locally for not winning and not playing defense. I thought they played an exceptional game. We were lucky to last there. Obviously 'Dos' was the guy that kept us in the game.”

Killorn gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead at 15:50 of the first period with a one-timer in the slot off a pass from Trevor Zegras behind the net.
