NFL Week 9 Start or Seat: Braelon Allen

Alex Hunter analyzes Braelon Allen's fantasy value for his Thursday Night Football matchup against the Texans.

After being a non-factor in the Jets' first two games under interim coach Jeff Ulbrich with just six total touches, Braelon Allen ($4,400 in Showdown) stormed back onto the scene in Week 8.

The rookie recorded a season-high 12 carries in the loss to the Patriots, rushing for 32 yards and a touchdown (9.2 FPTS) on those occasions. Allen played 30.7% of snaps and completed 42.9% of New York's running back carries, including two redzone rushes, the same amount Breece Hall ($10,400) saw in the redzone. Hall only scored four more carries than Allen, but Hall was more effective at 5.0 yards per carry compared to just 2.6 for Allen.

Considering the Jets lost their fifth straight game to the weak Patriots and Allen has a larger role, it's difficult to predict whether the rookie will continue to see a similar workload in Week 9, especially after Allen's starting Ulbrichs The Jets' HC has seen little work in its term. New York could easily go back to making Hall a workhorse — that leaves Allen's floor very shaky this Thursday despite the plus matchup against the Texans, who are giving up the ninth-most yards per rush this season (4.7).

The rookie would need to find paydirt to provide value, which seems unlikely given his +320 anytime touchdown odds at DraftKings Sportsbook. Unless you play in a very deep league and are extremely desperate, Allen isn't worth starting in your fantasy football league this week.
