Crews begin repairing the water main

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Update at 1:39 p.m.: TMWA begins repairing a water main break in Lemmon Valley.

They say the break occurred at the intersection of Heartpine Street and Matterhorn Blvd. took place.

Intermittent flushing is occurring as crews work, and TMWA says residents should expect some water flowing in nearby ditches. The repairs are expected to take a few days.

Update at 12:45 p.m.: Evacuations for the Matterhorn Drive area in Lemmon Valley have now been lifted.

According to the area map. The area has now been listed as an advisory zone.

Update at 10:49 a.m.: According to the Truckee Meadows Water Authority, the break in the water main has been isolated and water flow to the broken water main has been interrupted.

Crews are now assessing the damage.

All TMWA customers in the affected area now have water service.

According to TMWA, Matterhorn Drive is closed between Fir Drive and Tupelo Street until repairs are completed. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and follow diversion signs.

Update at 9:14 a.m.: The Red Cross of Northern Nevada says we are helping people displaced by the floods.

They also say that about 25 houses have been affected and that water supply has been shut off in the area.

Update at 9:03 a.m.: Officials now report that two homes in the area were damaged by flooding.

Update at 8:46 a.m.: According to Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, crews responded to a 36-inch waterline break in Lemmon Valley around 7 a.m. that flooded Matterhorn Blvd and the Chesapeake Drive neighborhood.

There was no damage to surrounding houses.

Update at 8:20 a.m.: The Washoe County School District says the flooding will not impact Lemmon Valley schools.

The breach occurred early Thursday morning and was announced by Washoe County on its Twitter account around 7:30 a.m.

The evacuation zone extends from Heartpine Street to Lemmon Drive.
