There will be a power outage for thousands of customers in the Twin Cities metro area this Halloween

Thousands of Xcel Energy customers are without power after the first snow of the season hit the Twin Cities metro on Halloween.

Power outages reported

As of about 2 p.m. Thursday, the Xcel Energy Outage map reports more than 19,000 customers affected by more than 150 outages in the Twin Cities metro area, St. Cloud and western Wisconsin.

More than 2,000 customers are without power in and around Maple Grove, Champlin and Brooklyn Park.

Further northwest, the Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association reported 4,600 customers without power, with the largest outages in Monticello and Annandale.

Schools without electricity

At least two schools were without power Thursday afternoon.

Wayzata High School in Plymouth lost power and released the following statement:

“Due to ongoing power outages and the fact that we are unable to serve students lunch, we are dismissing students early. They can be picked up from 1:20 p.m. Students can safely remain in the building until 3:20 p.m. The school buses run regular routes at the time.

FOX 9 also confirmed that Champlin Park High School is without power.

Thursday started with rain before it snowed.
