University President Darryll J. Pines and Senior Vice President and Provost Jennifer King Rice sent the following email to the campus community Wednesday afternoon:

As Election Day approaches on November 5, we have the opportunity to participate in one of our most important civic duties by casting our votes for candidates and causes we all support.

Many in our campus community will vote for the first time, joining a strong tradition of shaping the policies and leaders that will influence our future.

With early voting in Maryland ending tomorrow, October 31, it is important that you research your voting location and make a voting plan if you have not already done so. Our student body has consistently participated in the elections and outperformed its peers: 84% of registered UMD students voted in the 2020 election. This year we want to set even higher goals.

Whether you want to vote early or on Election Day between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., our 2024 Voting Center has resources to guide you through the process. For mail-in ballots in Maryland, you may submit a request online by 11:59 p.m. Friday, November 1 to receive and print your ballot by email.

Terps, we encourage each of you to seize this moment and recognize the power and privilege that comes with voting. At the same time, don’t hesitate to prioritize your wellness and connect with UMD’s wellness resources, as world events can impact each of us differently.

Remember that voting is your vote and join us in planning your vote today!

Sincerely,

Darryll J. Pines
