WINDY WITH RECORD HEAT, THEN SWEATING RAIN AND STORM TONIGHT

WINDY WITH RECORD HEAT, THEN SWEATING RAIN AND STORM TONIGHT

2 minutes, 33 seconds Read

We expect more record warm temperatures in northeastern Wisconsin for the second day in a row. Even though it's the day before Halloween, afternoon highs will climb into the high 70s to near 80 degrees. Green Bay's record high of 75 degrees, set on this day in 1901, will likely be broken by midday. All of this unseasonably warm air is being blown into northeastern Wisconsin by gusty southwest winds of up to 40 miles per hour.

The warm, windy and dry weather is keeping wildfire danger HIGH to VERY HIGH across the state. As we have urged many times this fall, please avoid all outdoor burning while these conditions continue.

Fortunately, they won't last much longer. Widespread rain with embedded thunderstorms will line up along a strong cold front moving our way. Most of this overdue, drenching rain will move through the area tonight. One to two inches of rain will fall from the Fox Valley and the Northwest, worsening our drought conditions. Gusty winds may also occur with a few thunderstorms tonight, but our severe weather risk is LOW.

More showers are expected tomorrow behind the withdrawing cold front. Much cooler air returns and temperatures fall back into the 50s and then 40s. Halloween trick-or-treating looks cool and damp with gusty westerly winds. While we will only have a few lingering showers, north-central Wisconsin trick-or-treaters will be in for a “snow scare” as some wet flakes fly by in the evening.

Rain is possible again on Sunday, meaning the Packers-Lions game may be wet. Temperatures will likely be in the low to mid 50s during the game.

Our forecast remains uncertain until early next week. There will be even more rain on Election Day, with highs in the low 60s… It's entirely possible we could get 2 to 5 inches of welcome rain by the middle of next week!
