The National Hurricane Center continues to track a system Wednesday that could develop in the Caribbean and become the next tropical depression or storm of the season.

The hurricane center's tropical outlook as of 8 a.m. said a widespread low pressure area was likely to develop over the southwest Caribbean Sea over the next few days.

“Gradual development is possible thereafter and a tropical depression could form over the weekend or early next week as the system drifts generally northward over the central or western Caribbean Sea,” forecasters said.

The center gives him a 40 percent chance of developing over the next seven days, the same percentage forecast for Monday and Tuesday but higher than the weekend.

If it gained enough steam, it could become Tropical Storm Patty.

The potential system would come in the final month of the official hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 1. 30.

There have been 15 named storms so far in the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, 10 of which developed into hurricanes and three of which hit Florida.
