Freddie Freeman's historic World Series heroics weren't enough for the Dodgers this time

Freddie Freeman doesn't know how to stop.

Here on Tuesday, the Dodgers first baseman — and World Series MVP frontrunner — picked up where he left off the night before as he continued his excellent weekend.

Freeman hit his fourth home run of the Fall Classic, setting two records, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Dodgers in their 11-4 loss to the Yankees in Game 4 of the World Series.

Freeman followed Mookie Betts' first-inning double off Luis Gil with a shot into the right field seats that gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead in the first frame for the second consecutive game.

It was the sixth consecutive World Series game (dating back to 2021 with the Braves) in which Freeman hit a home run. Freeman tied George Springer on Monday.

Freeman also became the first player to hit a home run in each of the first four games of a World Series – the night before, he tied Barry Bonds and Hank Bauer by hitting a home run in the first three games.

The early jolt wasn't enough to push the Dodgers forward, who got a solo home run from Will Smith in the fifth before Freeman's hustle contributed to the team's fourth run.

Freeman, playing with a loose ankle, hit the relay throw on a potential double-play grounder, allowing Tommy Edman to score.

Freeman was initially ruled out for the play, but the Dodgers challenged and got the decision overturned. Freeman sprained his ankle on September 26 and was hampered in the postseason.

Freeman's greatest contribution to this series remains the walk-off grand slam he hit in Game 1, which brought back memories of Kirk Gibson's epic hit for the Dodgers in the 1988 World Series. Freeman also scored at Dodger Stadium the following evening.

“I'm not surprised he's performing at this level,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after Game 3. “He's been very good in the postseason his entire career. I think the five (off) days before the series were huge, they gave him the chance to get out of the crisis (with the ankle).

“Now that we have overcome the problem, I think it is manageable and sustainable. I think he's doing really well. With the swings he’s made, he can stay solid on the front.”
